Ant Lace

Ruth Andrews led an IWCA workshop to make “ant lace” together. Ruth was inspired to create a community artwork about refugees through her friendship with Mohammed Hasen, originally from Ethiopia. The idea of the magnitude of fleeing people and the connectedness of refugees and migrants grew into these cut paper, lacelike images. Ruth is working on ideas for display as an installation and we were happy to experiment and create together on a beautiful February afternoon. Her book about Mohammed’s migration story is illustrated with one of her paintings.
