Sublime Reciprocity: Nature as Collaborator

Bonnie Zimmer retired after 40 years of teaching art at all levels and is now a full-time artist living near Rensselaer, Indiana. She holds a BFA in textiles from Indiana University and uses fiber techniques and natural and found materials to create vessels, sculptures, and installations that explore our relationship with nature. In addition, Zimmer enjoys creating nature-inspired jewelry and eco-printed clothing that she sells at regional art fairs including Interwoven Expressions, Chesterton Art Fair, and more.
“Mining my rural surroundings for materials and inspiration, I juxtapose beloved items from nature with discarded, human-made objects that cross my path. I am especially drawn to rusty metal objects beginning to return to the earth. Working intuitively, my materials guide me in my process, techniques, and structures. I strive to arrive at a perfect, visual equilibrium of form while retaining the inherent spirit of each item.”
